Our last Good Samaritan fundraiser for this school year is for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Our annual Trike-A-Thon is on Friday, April 23rd. Everyone needs to bring a bike, trike, scooter or push toy and helmet to school that day so that we can ride for a great cause!

Each class will have a time outside to ride their vehicle. Due to COVID19 we will not be asking for parent volunteers this year. We will be blocking the entrance to Open Arms to traffic from 9:30 – 12:30 that day. If you need to drop off during that time you can park in the church parking lot and walk your child down to Open Arms.

St. Jude Trike A Thon Schedule – April 23, 2021

Transitional Kindergarten 9:30 – 10:00am
Georgia Pre-K 10:10 – 10:40am
Toddlers and Infant 2 10:50 – 11:05am
Twos and EPS 11:10 – 11:40am
Preschool 1 and 2 11:50 – 12:20pm

Our employee spotlight today is on Ms. Kim Sperry.

Kim Sperry is a Georgia native and a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She worked in the corporate world for 11 years before God called her to work at Open Arms. Ms. Kim has worked at Open Arms for 23 years! She leads the children’s chapel each week and Jesus Time daily for the GA Pre-K children at the end of their school day.

Ms. Kim uses a variety of different methods to teach the lessons, including felt boards, props, costumes, Heart puppets, Scruffy, Goodie Bear or Eli, the Eagle from Amazing Healing Wings, crunched-up paper, cardboard boxes, or anything else that comes to hand.

Kim’s son & daughter both attended Open Arms as preschoolers and her daughter Nicki works at the school during school breaks and the summer. Ms. Kim is a member of Christ the Shepherd Lutheran Church and received the distinguished award from the Missouri Synod as Professional Educator of the Year in 2018.

This is what one of our current Open Arms Parents had to say about Ms. Kim:
“It has been an amazing experience for me as a parent and for them and I am so grateful! Emily has really grown her faith and Christian knowledge too and I overheard her asking someone yesterday if they knew about Jesus. It was so heartwarming.”
-Current OA Parent

Six years ago, we carefully chose Open Arms as our first son’s home away from home. He is now in Pre-K at the same school, and his little brother is in the pre-toddler class. We have stepped foot into that building almost every single school day for almost 6 years, and each and every time, we’re so happy with our decision. We consider the teachers and staff at Open Arms part of our extended family. They have helped us raise our two boys in a consistently safe, loving, and fun environment.

My son was around 6 months old when he began his journey with Open Arms. It was a time of personal and professional difficulty and uncertainty. But one thing that was certain was the care and love that was given to him every day he was in their care. Not for a moment did I have a concern for his well-being while at Open Arms. In short there was a stability there that both he and I needed...
