GEORGIA EARLY LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS

The GELDS promotes a quality learning experience for children and addresses the question, “What should children from birth to age five know and be able to do?

The GELDS are a set of achievable standards that are flexible enough to support children’s individual development, approaches to learning, and cultural context. These standards consist of a range of skills, behaviors, and concepts that children develop as they grow; and are used to ensure that the guidelines set forth by Bright from the Start (The state regulatory agency for childcare) are achieved.  Our goal is to exceed the standard. These standards will also help guide you as the parent in supporting your children’s growth, development, and learning potential as well as support the early identification and referral of children with special learning needs.

The domains that the GELDS encompass are Physical Development and Motor Skills, Social and Emotional Development, Approaches to Play and Learning, Communication Language and Literacy and Cognitive Development and General Knowledge.

The staff at Open Arms strive every day to create an environment that fosters, love, security and the challenges needed for each child to reach their full potential.
